This document relates to the scenario when the current show is live via Remote Rivendell and you are about to take over from Studio A. You are doing a handover via Cleanfeed.
For instructions on bringing a remote guest in via Cleanfeed for a show live in Studio A, see https://cambridge105.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/48001251299-cleanfeed-settings-for-studio-a-desk-remote-guests-joining-a-show-live-from-studio-a-
1. Check the desk settings
Check that the Aux1 Send knob on the mAir Carts channel is at minimum.
Check that the Aux1 Send knobs on the microphone channels are at about 9 o'clock
Ensure the studio is in Remote mode, with all faders down. (You won't hear the live program on the studio speakers)
2. Start Cleanfeed
Double-check you are in Remote mode with all faders down.
On the Studio A Windows computer, on the Desktop, double-click Remote Rivendell - Guest - Careful
Click 'Connect' if prompted
3. Check Cleanfeed audio settings
As soon as you are connected to Cleanfeed, but before you put any faders up, press the settings cog icon next to Studio A. A small menu opens where you can select the soundcard.
Ensure Telephony In and Left Only are selected:
If it says PGM Out or Browser Default, you must change this otherwise you will cause an echo loop when you start to speak.
4. Get ready for the handover
Put your headphones on, and put the MAir Carts fader up. You should now hear the program going out.
When you are ready to talk to the presenter using Remote Rivendell, put the host mic fader up.
If required, you can also put up other mics.
While talking, ensure that you are just peaking into the yellow on the Studio A meter in Cleanfeed. If required, use the 0 menu (next to Left only) to adjust the level into Cleanfeed up or down, then tell Engineering in Slack that you've had to make a change. (This means the underlying soundcard level has become set incorrectly, and we'll need to change it)
5. After the handover
Close Cleanfeed
Put all faders down
Put the remote fader back up
Switch the studio to Studio A mode
You can now prepare your show to take over normally.
If echoes are heard
Remember the golden rule:
- If you hear the echo, the problem is at the remote presenter's end
- If the remote presenter hears the echo, the problem is in Studio A
When you know the problem is in Studio A, check that:
- You are wearing headphones
- You aren't listening via PFL and the studio speakers are muted
- The Aux 1 send knob for mAir Carts is at minimum (see Step 1 on this page).
- The audio device selected in Cleanfeed is Telephony In
