CREDITS
A key part of the IRN contract is that Sky News and Sky Sports News should receive credits for certain items as follows:
Sky Specialists: All Sky editors, special correspondents and all Sky News and Sky Sports News presenters MUST be credited e.g. Political Editor, Beth Rigby and Crime Correspondent, Martin Brunt.
NB. No credits are required for non-specialist reporters and correspondents, foreign correspondents, newsreaders or video journalists, Sky may nevertheless include their details in their cues and scripts and stations are free to use them if they wish. These credits are optional rather than obligatory and it is for the individual station to decide whether to broadcast them or not.
Exclusives: All Sky exclusives must be branded as such on air. Exclusive does not mean the occasions when Sky is first with a story - only where they have exclusive rights and the material is not available from any other broadcaster.
Bulletins: Live on-the-hour bulletins will have a branded Sky intro – currently ”From the Sky News Centre” -The extro is not Sky branded and is currently “That’s the latest. I’m (namecheck).
OFF AIR CLIPS
One of the major benefits of the IRN Sky Agreement is that stations can take down audio direct from either Sky News or Sky Sports News. These are called “off-air clips” and the following conditions apply:
Any off-air clips from either Sky News and Sky Sports News shall not contain complete reporter packages.
Credits: ALL off-air clips taken from Sky Sports News must credit the channel e.g. speaking to Sky Sports News, told Sky Sports News.
Usage: Clips taken from Sky Sports News must not be longer than 45 seconds and the maximum usage allowed is 5 clips per day (including repeats) or 100 clips a month. Clips taken from Sky News must not be longer than 3 minutes and the maximum usage allowed per day is one hour (including repeats)
All off-air clips taken from Sky News or Sky Sports News are broadcast at the station’s own risk.
NB Sky has the right under our contract to audit the use of these credits and stations are therefore advised to keep a log of all off air clips used.
Major News Story: In the event of a major news incident stations can re broadcast the output of Sky News for an initial period of one hour. Sky may extend this depending on the circumstances
Prohibited Material: Certain material available on Sky is classed as prohibited so far as radio station usage is concerned and MUST NOT BE BROADCAST. The list of prohibited material includes:
- Commentary or sound effects from any sport event
- Any material from Man Utd TV, Chelsea TV, Reuters, Fox, APTN
- Music, apart from incidental background music or music used to illustrate a news feature e.g. death of Michael Jackson
PRS and PPL: Stations are responsible for PRS and PPL returns for any music contained in Sky clips. Details will be provided by Sky.
SKY SUBSCRIPTION: Stations must have a valid subscription to Sky if they wish to take off air clips.
AD HOC RESTRICTIONS From time to time special conditions may be attached to material supplied by Sky or from a third party broadcaster. Sky will inform stations in advance of these conditions.
