Fully voicetracked logs allow you to record only your spoken links, and build these into a larger log containing news, music, adverts and other content.
Voicetracked logs should be built using Remote Rivendell at home: you can create logs on the studio Rivendell PCs, but not record voicetracked links at the moment.
See Connecting to Remote Rivendell to get connected to Rivendell at home.
Creating the log
- Open the RDLogEdit application from the Activities menu:
- Use the Add button to create a new log, and name it YYYY-MM-DD-HH-Showname (four digit year, two digit month, two digit day, two digit 24-hour clock hour, then the name of your show, all separated with hyphens):
- If your show is multiple hours and has IRN in the middle, create one log per hour and treat each as a separate show. If the show is multiple hours without IRN in the middle, create one log for the whole show. For shows starting at 09:30, see the Voicetracked log checklist for details of the first half hour.
- Check the log name is correct before going further - renaming it later can cause problems!
Building the log
- Items will be added to the log immediately above the selected line. Start by selecting the --- end of log --- line:
- Begin your log by using the Insert Cart button to add a new cart to the log, then use Select Cart to pick the REMOTE RD ON AIR cart. If you don't find it in the list of carts, check Group and Scheduler Code are both set to ALL:
- Check the Start at box, and enter HH:01:00.0 in the timed start box, where HH is the (24-hour) hour of this log. This will automatically start that cart at that time.
- Change the Transition if previous cart ends before drop-down to Stop. This will ensure the cart doesn't fire earlier than the specified time.
- Insert either C105R Local News or a suitable TOTH jingle, with a start time of HH:02:00.7, and a transition type of Stop in the same way. You should see a T next to both carts' estimated times, and the Trans column should show STOP:
- Insert your first track, and from now on, don't set a timed start, and leave the transition type as Segue:
- When you want to have a spoken link, use the Insert Meta button, then choose Voice Track. This will insert a placeholder for a link which you will record later:
- Continue building your log until you think you have enough content.
- At the end of the hour or log, insert the HOLD FOR NEWS cart, with a timed start of HH:58:29.0. This will ensure your last track will be faded out in time for the Top of the Hour sequence:
- If this log is the final hour of your show, insert the REMOTE RD OFF AIR cart with a timed start of HH:59:00.0. This will put Remote Rivendell back off air.
- Save your log and click OK to return to the list of logs.
Recording voicetracked links
- From the list of logs in RDLogEdit, find your log. It will probably have a red X indicating not all voicetracked links have been recorded yet:
- Select your log, then click Voice Tracker:
- Select the voice track you wish to record. The cart before will be shown in the top waveform, your link in the middle, and the cart following in the bottom waveform.
- Recording a link involves, normally in quick succession:
- Click the top Start (or press space) to start the end of the last cart playing - you will hear this via Cleanfeed
- Click Record (or press space again) to start recording your link
- Click the bottom Start (or press space) when you want the following cart to start - you can keep talking over the intro if appropriate
- Click Save (or press space) when you've finished speaking, to stop recording
- Review your link by pressing the Play button. You should hear the end of the previous cart, your link, then the start of the next cart.
- If necessary, slide the middle track left or right to change when your link starts compared to the end of the previous cart. (Don't do this if the previous cart is Local News or Adverts!)
- Similarly, click the next cart in the log, and slide that relative to the end of your voice link to refine that transition. Use the play button to review as required.
- If you wish to re-record a link, click Do Over and start again.
- Repeat for each link you need to record
- Close the Voice Tracker window, and check your log now shows a green tick:
If necessary, you move back and forth between the log editor (Edit button or double-click in the list of logs) and voice tracker (Voice Tracker button), adding and removing carts and voicetrack links as required.
