To connect to Remote Rivendell, either for a live show or to create logs, you will need:
- A web browser that supports Cleanfeed - Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge all work
- An invite to Remote Rivendell's Cleanfeed account - this is personal to you, and must not be shared with any other presenters or guests
- A VNC Viewer, such as RealVNC Viewer: https://www.realvnc.com/en/connect/download/viewer/
- The VNC password - you will be told this by the Engineering Team
Remember Remote Rivendell is a shared resource: if it's being used by somebody else, or playing out a voicetracked show, Non-Stop Cambridge 105, Too Good to be Forgotten or similar, don't use it.
Connecting to VNC
- Open VNC Viewer
- If you're using RealVNC Viewer, ignore the "Sign in..." button - you don't need to do this:
- In the server address box, enter studio.cambridge105.co.uk and press enter:
- Enter the VNC password provided by the Engineering Team.
- You should now see Rivendell:
If you see tracks playing or the mouse moving, the system is in use - disconnect and try again later.
Connecting to Cleanfeed
- Open the invite link provided by the Engineering Team. Keep this handy - you will need it in future.
- Make sure you have headphones on, and the microphone you wish to use is connected. Click the start button:
- If the remote end (shown as "Rob Chipperfield (Cambridge 105 Radio)" stays showing "Connecting" instead of "Connected", reach out to the Engineering Team on Slack - the studio end needs a refresh:
- If you hear audio once the studio has connected, the system is on-air and probably in use - disconnect immediately unless you are expecting this to be the case.
- Once the studio is shown as connected, check you are using the correct microphone. Click the cog next to your name, then from the largest drop-down box, select your microphone or sound card:
- Check your microphone level - you should be hitting the yellow segment of the meter on your peaks, but never the red. When you stop talking, the level meter should be almost at the bottom - if it stays higher, there's probably some noise on your audio.
- Check you can hear audio from Rivendell - click a cartwall entry like a jingle in RDAirplay, and you should hear it.
You're now ready to start working with Remote Rivendell
