Where shows need to include local news, contemporary adverts, or live travel reads, instead of uploading the show to our pre-rec playout system, we use Remote Rivendell to play a collection of recorded segments.
For "daytime" shows, each full hour should have the follow lengths:
- Part One, between 16m30s and 17m30s (aim for 17m00s)
- Part Two, between 16m30s and 17m30s (aim for 17m00s)
- Part Three, not less than 18m30 and with no voice links after the 11m00s mark (this is probably easiest to achieve by ending with two back-to-back songs. Do not announce the second of these songs as it may not be played.)
For other shows, an hour with IRN at the start and end, but no local news, should be two segments totalling at least 55 minutes, or three segments totalling at least 54 minutes.
Record your segments as MP3s at 256kbps or higher bitrate.
Upload all the segments using the audio importer, https://audioimport.cambridge105.co.uk, selecting "Temporary file". Name them with obvious, unique names, such as "2023-04-10 Rob C Part 1".
Wait for all segments to be imported into Rivendell - for each hour of content, allow approximately 15 minutes.
For multi-hour shows with IRN between each hour, treat each hour separately and create a new log for each hour.
In Rivendell - either in the studio or remotely via Remote Rivendell - open the `RDLogEdit` application:
Click Add to create a new log. Name it using the format YYYY-MM-DD-HH-programme-id, for example 2023-04-10-13-rob-chipperfield.
In the Edit Log window, add content using the Insert Cart button. New carts will be inserted above the currently-selected line in the log; start by selecting the `--- end of log ---` line.
Start with the `REMOTE RD ON AIR` cart. Check Start at, and enter XX:01:00.0 in the start time, where XX is the hour of the show, and set the transition type to Stop:
If your show will start with local news, follow with the `C105R Local News` cart. This should have a start time of XX:02:01, and the transition type should be set to Stop. If your show does not start with local news, do the same but with your first segment of content:
Then, add your first segment. This should not have a timed start, and should have its transition type left as Segue. Follow with the `C105R Ad Sequence` cart, then your next segment, and so on for the rest of the hour:
Carts with a timed start set are shown with a T before the time; those without just have an estimated time. Note the STOP transition type for the local news cart.
After your last segment, add a `HOLD FOR NEWS` cart, with a timed start of XX:58:30 to ensure any extra content gets faded out under the TOTH sequence.
Finally, if this is the last hour of your show, add a `REMOTE RD OFF AIR` cart with a timed start of XX:59:00 to switch Remote Rivendell off air after the show finishes:
Save the log, then click OK to return to RDLogEdit. If you have further hours, create another log for the next hour, e.g. 2023-04-10-14-rob-chipperfield.
Close RDLogEdit when you are finished building your logs.
